Angelo's was a spur of the moment decision with friends last night. Our friend had whipped out his Microsoft phone, with "Mango" installed, and showed us that he could find restaurants just as well as our other friend with the iPhone.
Raising our eyebrows just a tad, but wanting to be supportive, we were after all in MIcrosoft town, our little group decided that we would go with the suggestion Mango came up with. That suggestion was Angelo's.
Off the beaten path, and a little hidden, Angelo's restaurant was a gem. When we first stepped in, we knew immediately that Angelo's was not a trendy restaurant. Rather, it was a cozy, dimly lit place packed with a clientele of mostly 50+.
A hostess came by and told us we would be seated in 4 minutes and went to find us a table. Within minutes, our little party was seated near to what seemed to be a first date and a classy group of seniors. In this instant, we knew we hit the jackpot.
My husband reviewed the menu and ordered the canneloni ($14) while I ordered my usual, the bolognese ($11). Our friends ordered eggplant parmesan ($14) and ravioli (?).
When the food came out, everything looked delicious. I immediately sunk my fork into my husband's canneloni and was in heaven. My husband loved it -- he thought it was the perfect combination of cheese, meat, noodles and just enough sauce; high praise from a man who doesn't like Italian food.
I then tried mine tentatively. It's hard to find a non-acidic bolognese in this town, but Angelo's was different. It was a pleasant mix of tomatoes and meat -- it was not overly acidic and it was perfectly portioned for me. I ate the whole thing.
Our friends looked like they thoroughly enjoyed their meal too as they each cleared their plate. In all, I would highly recommend Angelo's for a romantic or family dinner.
I would really like to go back to try out the tiramisu.
